How to play Killer Sudoku

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Killer Sudoku. Fill rows, columns and boxes with 1–9 once. Cage digits cannot repeat and must add to their clue. Look at what changes after your first action. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Use the example below to understand a decision.

This collection contains 8 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Fill rows, columns and boxes with 1–9 once. Cage digits cannot repeat and must add to their clue. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Controls

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. A new-round button replaces the current round.

A useful example

A two-cell cage labelled 3 holds 1 and 2; a one-cell cage fixes its own value. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Take a moment to compare.

Watch out for this

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
