How to play Tangram

Make Tangram your next activity in the game library. Fill the square target with seven pieces, without gaps or overlap. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Look at what changes after your first action.

Arrange seven pieces into the square target. Rotate or flip a piece to fit; this game currently offers one target shape.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Fill the square target with seven pieces, without gaps or overlap. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Drag a selected piece.
  2. Rotate in 45-degree steps or flip it.
  3. Use snapping for precise alignment.
  4. Check the layout or use one-piece assistance.

Controls

Mouse/touch dragging and rotate/flip buttons. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

The parallelogram may need flipping rather than rotation. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

Overlaps do not count as filling the target. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
